The Bishop’s Certificate in Theology for Ministry has been designed to help Anglicans in the Diocese of Newcastle to learn about key areas of Christian belief and their relationship to contemporary mission and ministry. The programme aims to help participants to understand their Christian faith better, and to be able to apply the Christian faith in the world around you, and particularly in their local area.
The Certificate programme intentionally commences with studies in mission and Anglican identity in order to provide a platform for the study which is to follow. Participants then move on to foundational tools in the contextual study of the Bible and in pastoral care. The third block of courses focuses on the development of liturgy and on applied ethics.

The Six Courses
The Bishop’s Certificate programme contains six courses which are delivered in three blocks. Participants must study the blocks in the following order:

Additional Core Components
In addition to the six courses participants also complete one situation analysis audit in each block and complete one ministry skills stream during their Certificate studies.

In normal circumstances participants must complete the Bishop’s Certificate before commencing studies in the Diploma programme.
