Those who minister at the time of death do so in the context of faith grounded in the paschal ministry of life, death and the resurrection of Jesus and at the same time bound up with membership in and identity of the Church.
This ministry skills stream aims to enable participants to explore, in the face of death and in the midst of grief, the work and ministry of pastoral care. We will share our stories, explore the dos and don’ts of pastoral ministry in this area in theory and practice, and study the rites of the Anglican Church that relate to dying and death.
-
On completion of this Ministry Skills Stream participants will be able to:
- understand that pastoral care of the dying is a specialised type of ministry to dying individuals and their families and loved ones;
- articulate a greater understanding of loss, grief, dying and death;
- engage with greater confidence and understanding, in a relationship with the dying so that they may know the signs of God’s presence in holy living and holy dying;
- understand what a dying person seeks from their loved ones and carers;
- minister with confidence to the dying and be able to offer the rites or participate in the rites of ‘Ministry with the Dying’ (APBA pp 696-706).
